If you are updating from any other Android-Version than Froyo (2.2) do wipe data/cache BEFORE installing SGM.
1. Push it to your SDcard, go to recovery and apply pushed file.
2. After complete boot make reboot one more time!
This update won't wipe your data!

Battery Calibration
1.1) Battery Calibration? -> "Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break."
1.2) Battery Calibration! -> "If anyone has a battery drain after an update/kernel change, wipe batterystats via recovery. At first, charge your phone to 100% when it's on. turn it off and connect the charger again. Wait till the battery on the screen says "battery fully charged". Disconnect the charger & reboot directly into the recovery and wipe the batterystats."
PS: maybe you can also try this App for calibrate your battery -> Easiest way i found to calibrate my battery
2.) More Battery Life Out of Your Android
What do you do when your battery is about to die ...??
2.1) Use the Power Widget to Easily Toggle GPS, Bluetooth, Wireless, and Screen Brightness
2.2) 3G - requires a lot of power, so you can choose "2G Only"
2.3) Backlight - adjust the backlight to be less bright (Settings –> Display –> Brightness)
2.4) Wi-Fi - disable Wi-Fi when you don’t need it
2.5) Bluetooth - disable Bluetooth when you don’t need it
2.6) GPS - disable GPS when you don’t need it
2.7) Disable Apps that Sync Constantly
For example you can use the "k-9"-Email App instead of the built-in Email application and activate the Push technology from "k-9" to get you mails.
2.8) Background-Apps
Try the OS Monitor-App to see how much resources your running Apps consume!!!
But also other background-apps like twitter, facebook etc. can reduce the battery-time, so you can change the Update-Interval (Settings –> Background Updates) or try e.g. "MinFreeManager"-app or "SSSwitch" and configure the kernel settings to kill background-apps without installing a app for killing apps BUT this will reducing the multitasking features from your phone!
2.9) More general Information
-> Complete Guide to Maximizing Your Android Phone’s Battery Life - How-To Geek
3) Battery Manager Apps
Maybe you can also try a Battery Manager App, but I don't need/use it and if you try the above tips I think you will also not need it
- "SuperPower"
- "JuiceDefender"

habe bisher keine Probleme!

Also, im Recovery mache "Apply any zip from SD" => CM-6.1.1-Spica-a8.3_update
anschließend mache ich "wipe data/cache"
dann "reboot system now"
Lasse einmal System hochfahren (funktioniert wunderbar).
Nachher wieder ins Recovery (hier ist übrigens schon neues Recovery).
Flashe deine Update mit bfs kernel
reboot
Weißt du vllt was ich da falsch mache?
MfG

Weißt du vllt was ich falsch mache?

+ Low benchmark but phone more responsive. -

----------------
+ minor fixes in camera module
+ activated 2 previously unused DVFS frequencies (66MHz & 133MHz), now phone should be more energy efficient
+ modified kernel sound driver values, now videos should be lag-less (I hope)
+ fixed all kinds of ROTATOR errors
+ finally fixed widget list showing and operating speed, now is working like a shortcut list
+ because of hard modified g2d module animation and transition speeds should be improved
+ low heat emission in normal usage -

So.

Hello Voku,
Yes, I know, I killed it with sigkill.. then the phone rebooted suddenly.
What should I check/search for basically in log in your opinion?
What are the basic troubleshooting steps when you see something like this? (I do not really know how the Android system works but I know
how Linux works..)

Thanks for fast answer. No problem for outdated apps, I updated from CM v14.2 to SGM v3.7 and I got some problems like:
1.Browser 2.2.1 in CM works fine, 2.2.2 in SGM crash on some sites and close
2. Email app 2.2.1 works fine, 2.3 doesn't click when I touch neither scroll horizontally, just vertically
3. VoIP audio (Skype and CSipSimple) on CM just play throught earphone (ok) and on SGM just play throught speaker (bad)
4. Battery charger animation in CM is more fun and show % info
5. Some times the phone restart with SGM v3.7I will test v14.3 now.

Thanks? I have one week upime with v3.7 ... how many apps do you have installed and what do you did when phone restarted?
1.Browser: I know, we use a patched gingerbread-version and it isn't very stable :p (I use Opera Mini as default browser)
2. Email: 2.2.1 have a bug that drain battery time
and the exchange-fix didn't work ... maybe you can try "k-9 Mail"
...-
I have installed, with system apps, about 100 apps.
On v3.7:
I replaced the default LatinIME by gingerbread version for support pt_BR.
I replaced system apps by updates, so I overwrite the old apps in /system/app, so I get more /data space.
I have some other test apps I developped while I am learning now.
I moved GPS app, Skype, Mercury MSN and CSipSimple to /system/app for more perfomance and to solve this apps didn't bring up with boot and didn't dead when switch between wi-fi and 3g.
About de VoIP audio just play through speaker, I don't know what do I do, maybe change to Voku or other kernel.
About reboot, it happened when I was using GPS, Mecury MSN or unlocking screen.I tested Skype with CM v14.3 now, Voku Kernel v1.7, and works like v14.2, next weekend I will try to install Yonip kernel in CM v14.3 and Voku Kernel in SGM v3.7 for new experiences.
Have a nice weekend.
Thanks,

Today is holiday in Brazil, so I upgrade again to SGM v3.7.
VoIP audio just play on speaker, no audio on earpiece of cell.
I tried kernel Yonip 12B from:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f53/kernel-yonip-kernel-
cm-6-1-1-alpha-8-3-a-4254
Now with Yonip 12B, the VoIP audio just play on earpiece of cell, it's ok for me, but not right.
I come back to v3.7 and I noted the controls of VoIP apps don't change "Voice Call Path: 0 (Off)", while phone app change it to RCV or SPK. If I change via adb with "amix 7 RCV" while doing VoIP call, the audio plays on earpiece, if I change "amix 7 SPK", the audio plays on speaker. I saw this while a call with Phone app.
Can you help me to solve this problem?
For while I am using Yonip 12B for VoIP audio on earpiece.
Thanks. -

I went back to v3.8, because the link of v3.9 doesn't work:

Personally I think you should remove Live wallpapers. Waste of space and I don't think anyone uses them. Otherwise; Awesome!when I have update the kitchen, then you can build your own version without Live-Wallpapers
or you can remove the app from the zip-file (/system/app/...) by yourself -

Hi!
My Spica is dead!
What do I do now? Can you help me, please?
I think it died when trying to flash the boot (kernel or logo), because it died after "deleting files" messages.
Now, it doesn't boot. I removed the battery, I put it back, I pressed "hang" for a while and nothing happened.
I connected the USB cable and adb didn't find it. Neither Linux recognized it. Neither appeared the image of battery charging.
I removed the battery, I put it back, I connected the USB cable and then appeared the image of battery charging. I pressed "hang" for a while, the battery charging image faded out and nothing else happened.
I disconnected the USB cable, I removed the battery, I put it back, then pressed for a while "quieter + camera + hang" to boot in the download-mode, but nothing happened.
SOS! :'(
Help me, please! What do I do?

I did AnTutu benchmarking and the scores too are a bit low, around 950 compared to earlier scores of 1200. I know these scores are not the right thing to measure, but putting the values just for comparison.

Hi voku,
since updating to SGM 4.4 I've a problem with my bluetooth headset. I can't play music over it. The connection of the headset works fine. The system says, that it is connected with the phone and the media-system. When I want to play music in the music player, the phone looses the connection to the media system and plays the music via the phone's loudspeaker. The connection to the phone-system for calling via the headset still exists and works fine all the time.
Do you have any idea, what I can do? It is really annoying because it has been working perfectly.
I checked the headset on another phone and there it worked fine too. So the headset is not broken or so.
My phone must cause the problem. Can you help me?
Thanks in advance!

Voku, I'm using the normal SGM 4.4 zip file (no kichen). It is almost perfect, thanks.
But I miss two things:
1) I was not able to use Openvpn (tried both the openvpn installer/openvpn settings applications from the Market, and the standard cyanogenmod openvpn configuration using a p12 certificate)
2) as someone said in a previous post on samdroid, audio redirection with voip applications is a mess: I tried sipdroid and csipsimple, with and without the bluetooth headset, but all you can get is just dropped calls and/ or noisy whistlesI'm afraid that the voip problem is related to the froyo port, but I'm confident that the openvpn problem could be solved. In your Changelog there was an explicit reference to some openvpn tweak (BETA1 and pre-beta-2)
thanks again

Chris:
Hi voku,
since updating to SGM 4.4 I've a problem with my bluetooth headset.
Thanks in advance!"since updating to SGM 4.4" ... of which version you've upgraded?
I was on 4.3 and I have updated to 4.4.

There is a kernel patch for the VOIP issue at http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/sipdroid-voip-i5700-problems-983/
That kernel might work with SpicagenMod.

Sadly I switched back to 4.4: Bluetooth headset was not working correctly (lot of noise, distorted voice. Maybe the DSP Manager? I also tried a few settings on the DSP manager without usefule results)
The good news is that using the OpenVPN.apk from 4.6, I'm able to use openvpn in 4.4. So far so good.
I can live without Voip applications, and even with some strange audio routing (voice search on the handset only for instance)
Thanks again Voku -

Hallo Voku,
5) Muss man Kernels extra installieren?
GreenUser

Hey Voku,
Have you had a look at this:

This proposes to move dalvik to /cache and thus free up lot of space in data and make low memory messages a thing of past.

@Voku:May be I found a bug:

the minimum CPU frequency to 133MHz to speed

Live Wallpaper screen corruption after some apps (Angry brids 2.0.0 for instance). Hands free beeping appears to be a feedback thing, volume reduction appears to help. If you choose to vibrate every 45 secs while a phone call is in progress well it hangs ups automatically....

yes! ext2 improve performance (e.g. http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/high-performance-computing/w/wiki/2290.aspx) and I have already added "some scripts" to this ROM

Hi, 5.4 is the better rom so far, but I would like to suggest one thing: could you please cook a cleaner rom? all of the rom in here leave less than 80Mb of the internal hard disk space and after installing the software I use I barely manage to keep 20 Mb (even using Titanium backup to uninstal some default apps) Last thing I did was to manually edit the zip to erase some apps and I could reduce the app folder from 66Mb to 37 Mb, resulting in 106Mb of free internal hard disk space after instalation. But I would be nice cooking a cleaner one, since the less internal hasrd disk space, the slower the performance of the cell. The other thing I wanted to point out is that there is a problem with the quicksearchbox option... when you select it in the desktop by clicking meny and search with google, the program opens, but when you write any character it shut down, that error started in v4.8 so far I know and it hasn't been solved since. Thanks for your effort cooking roms for us and thanks for your time reading this post.

Hello Voku, thank you for working on these composes, they work great.
Could you consider adding the ability to record calls? None of the applications on the Market seems to work (either they only record one party and not the other, or they hang) and information on the web suggests that some kernel driver is needed to support seamless recording.
Does it sound like something you'd be willing to investigate?
Thank you, Peter

Regarding the internal hard disk space issue I would like to add that yesterday night I tested a script that I found in a forum, that script allows to move the dalvik-cache to the /cache folder in order to obtain more internal hard disk space... I have to say that I worked perfect, but later on I realized that I cannot install any app... neither from the market nor from the sd... In fact, I tried to install some apps from the recovery and I couldn't. Has any of you guys had the same problem? Any solution? any suggestion? I have to say that my phone is running great since it has more space in the internal memory, but it is a pain to be unable to install any app... the only thing I can do is to move my apps from sd to disk...
-
#409 written by crok 4 months ago
Hm..
Because you moved Dalvik cache to /cache you cannot install apps (too many cache and dalvic cache content stored in /cache and apps (to be installed) are downloaded/moved to /cache before install by the package installer.. therefore you have problem..).Do the following:
Install the following (small) app from Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.felipearon.marketfix&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5mZWxpcGVhcm9uLm1hcmtldGZpeCJdWith this you will have the opportunity to set Market to download the apks to SD card instead of /cache.
But please consider: every time you install one app it will reserve additional space in /cache (dalvik cache content).. therefore apps which are want to cache data cannot allocate space.. you will be in trouble..
In my opinion the only scenario to move dalvik-cache to /cache is to use only fixed number of apps (to avoid caching/no room for dalvik cache problems).

Hi Voku,
5.7 and 5.6 seems to be less stable then 5.5. My spica reboot itself several times and it's more laggy.
5.7 - something wrong with recovery resolution - instead of one window I have 4 smaller and i suppose that it's not intentional.Additionally
From quite a long time beta 4-5 there is a bug in lock/unlock (turn on/turn off) screen. Sometimes when i press lock button and just after that press it again in order to unlock then black/white vertical lines appears (It look like highlighted painted black glass
). -

Long time you don't comment your work, Voku. I wanted say again that since Beta4.8 the problem with the google search and quicksearhbox apps has not been fixed; both app open, but when you write any character they shut down. Besides, there is another bug that has not been solved since Beta3.6; I have a bluetooth handsfree in my car; the phone connects with it normally, but when I call somebody or I receive an incoming call, the sound does not transfer to the handsfree but it still in my phone; the last version that supported my handsfree was Beta3.6 (as I said before); anyway, thanks for your effort cooking roms for us and thanks for your time reading this post.

Hallo Voku!

A suggestion for SGM 5.8:
setting>privacy> restore the factory Settings, mobile reboot into recovery mode and
1. DATA format, and converting the file format to "RFS" >>>> can only format, but keep the current file format(EXT2)?
2. CACHE format, and converting the file format to "RFS" >>>> can only format, but keep the current file format(EXT2)?
3. After that, the phone will not restart automatically, but stay in recovery mode >>>> can be changed to reboot automaticallySORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

I tried version 5.8 and I find some problems:
-edit a wifi network when is configured. it causes force close.
-why the phone doesn't search automaticaly wifi network (you need to go inside wifi configuration) (it happens also in the samdroid 2.2 version)
-when I turn on the phone is like I did "wipe" every time. I didn't have my app?¿ is this normal or maybe my micro sd is broken?thx for your work! I'll tried the new version with a new mircrosd

Hi !
After update SpicagenMod BETA5.9 => BETA6 I noticed some problem: All SMS apps doesn't work.
I got alert each time: "Sorry! The application Messages (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
The same problem with Handcent SMS.I'm updating each Mod+X beta since 2.0, every time I'm removing k9, QQPlayer, LiveWallpapers and I don't think it may be related to the problem.

Voku, your SpicagenMod is very good, but version 6 freezes a lot, especially with Internet applications such as email (k9), browser (dolphin mini) and the Remote RDP. I noticed that freezes in both versions of kernel (24bpp or 16bpp), I'm currently using 16bpp kernel version.
The applications start very slow, maybe because I have so many applications and use the tools samdroid (apps2sd) in order to install the programs on the card in the extra partition. It also enabled the change of dalvik-cache to SD with samdroid tools.
Another question, how do I remove the "+" button at the top of the agenda? With this button I cant see my first day appointments (appointments without fixed hours).Regards, Flavio.

Hi Voku, I'm using your Version 6 and it's very fast and responsive but freezes a lot. Sometimes it reboots without any reasons. Can you keep its speed and work on stability?
Please remove the "+" button at the top of agenda... what's its function? No problem for me with SMS.Thanks for your very good job.

Voku, the new kernel (3.3) does not solve the problems.
With internet connection (3g/wifi) off, my phone works great, very fast, with only a slight delay to start apps.
When I turn on WiFi or 3G my phone freezes a lot, especially when I use the browser, gmail and K9 app.
In these cases I need to remove the battery to reboot phone.
I can help you sending any part of logcat?Regards, Flavio.

My old spica has become a new and very fast phone after installing BETA6! Thank you! I have a question thou: is apps2sd enabled by default (all applications goes to sdcard by default), or do I need to enable it? Do I need to format the sdcard so the system sees it as the internal storage?
Thank you again for awesome work! -
#542 written by Adnan 2 months ago
Hi again.
I've found out how to enable apps2sd.
There is anyway one problem: pictures in the gallery are not shown sharp, specially when I want to show pictures from picasaweb (large pictures). Pictures are shown pixelized. It looks like the cpu is not managing to process all the information. Trying to show these pictures freezes the phone, and the only way to get phone to operate is to pull out the battery. -

Problem with "Messaging application has stop unexpectedly" still occurs. Voku, I don't now if you was trying to fix it but this problem start occurs when some new / unleaded messages appears.
Additionally there is something wrong with contacts. Contact list is not displayed (black screen);
when add new contact then black screen appears. -

Hi Voku, I'm very happy about version 6.1 and the new launcher, very reponsive. Great job! Only one problem: I can't see my contacts. All of them, synchronized from google account, are on the phone, beacause every search produces results. But the classic "contact" screen is empty! Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steah

kind regards,
Roman -

I would like to make a question again because I had no answer yet. Excuse my hurry but I want to be sure that I can get back my phone in case anything went wrong in the update process. If I had to return to my actual Android 2.1 Eclair version, the only thing that has to be made is to use Recovery and "apply zip from SD" and use the 2.1 Eclair version zip I have in the SD (it is one from Samdroid Kitchen) Am I right?

Hi,
I am using SpicagenMOd, but after 5.8, 5.9 etc I have decided to return to 5.7. It was the last stable version for me...and reading the feed-backs looks that 6.3 is also only for people who like to experiment. Personally, I am looking for a stable environment, again, I reccommend 5.7
Cheers,

I also really like the 6.3! Really fast and pretty stable. I can't access Google Play though after installing. I can access the start "page", but when I try to access an app or my apps it tells me "No connection - Retry?".
I wiped the cache + dalvik cache after installation and did a reboot...
Any ideas? I'm not so keen on doing a full wipe... :/ -

I've got a problem with displaying date and time. If I set date and time automatic it always add one day to the current date so my SMS, Gtalk chats and other services aren't displaying corectly. I'm using clocksync from market and after booting up the phone it sets current date(if i set phone for manual date/time it switching to auto after reboot), but when I'm using valid date, clock on the taskbar freezes and clock on locked screen shows current time after unlocking and locking the phone. I'm on 6.2 which works the best for me. Can anyone help?

Hi!
I made a clean Odin JH1 install, then LK2.08, then the RC1. Boot time is about 2 minutes, or more. The system freezes in every 10 minutes, I have to pull out the battery. I can't even restore the call log or the backuped programs.
What could be the problem? Maybe the JH1 baseband?
Thx in advance! -

Hi Voku,
There is some bug in GPS.
I used "GPS status" application to verify this problem. What i usually do is:
- turn off Wi-fi
- turn on GPS and Mobile data
through notification area, and then I run application which use GPS (Endomondo, GPS status).
In notification icon about receiving GPS signal appears after GPS application was run.
What loom large in my mind - sometimes even if I turn on GPS and mobile data and icon in notification area appeared, SPICA doesn't detect satellites (BUT generally satellites are available on sky and GPS signal is received). It looks like phone was ready to receive signal but it only pretend to do it.Additional request to RC2:
If mobile has GPS receiver there should also be by default some tool which allow user to verify form how many satellites we receive signal (To get a quite good position SPICA, or any gps receiver has to receiving signals from at least 4 satellites).IF you need some more information/tests just let me know.

I'm using RC1 from the first date of release and it seems it very fast and nice. But I've noticed a few lags:
1) ~1-2 mins boot time;
2) very often system totally freezes after wi-fi is turned of by default widget in status panel - helps only battery ejection;
3) sometimes system totally freezes without any reason (screen and keyboard don't response).
In Beta6 it was not such a common problem.
But thanks for your work! ) -

Excelent work Voku you are a genius, rc1 is almost the best froyo ROM for spica that I have test.
Only a few observations:
1) So long boot time (not so bad, just patience)
2) Freezes very often and the only solution is pull off the battery and then, so long boot again (very very serius, please fix it)
3) I know that is so dificult but I would wish to know about any progress with hardware accelerated movie playing in DivX and WMV, official Cupcake and Eclair works fine with these formats
And again, congratulations man, very very good work with this ROM
Guten Tag!!

Hello,
I have installed your Spicagenmod RC1 on my Spica i5700.
It works great and fast, good job.
But I now find an error, problem.
I want to use VPN to connect with a dratek vigor 2700.
I configured the internal L2TP/IPSEC with PSK connection.
But when I tried to connect there comes immediatly an
error "no network connection could be established...".
I also tried out a PPTP connection, but I got the same error.
The error comes very fast, so it seems that he will not try to connect
to the vpn server.
I have insalled this mod a second time, but it does not work.If have also tried to make a connect with my tablet
galaxy Tab8.9 with Android 3.2, to check my vpn server.
But with the tablet, this works perfect.Does this version support VPN?
Please give me info.
Thanks

So, you say, 16bpp kernel is faster?
I was wondering, if there was any significant performance difference between the 24bpp and 16bpp kernels. You are practically suggesting, there is.
By the way, I am using the 24bpp kernel, and the only issue so far, that I can't get the status bar display the battery in percents. Bit annoying, but no way a real problem...
-
#666 written by Gabo 3 weeks ago
Well in my case 16bpp kernel fix the long time boot issue, no more freezes anymore but I'm not sure if it's was solved because of the 16bpp kernel or SpicaTweaksLite, but the long boot time was definetly solved with 16bpp kernel
In other hand, since I do switch to 16bpp, music player gets me drops, system performance is the same with both kernels but 16bpp boot faster
If you want to the phone keeps fast, make sure to have at least 25mb in internal storage space, thats works for me

I have a problem with USSD codes since I started using SpicagenMod. I cleared all data and cache once and It helped but after few days problem appeared again. I gave up long time ago and I learned to live without USSD codes :[
And yes, with current version there are still a lot of freezes, nothing helps but battery remove. And sometimes my Spica restarts without any reason.
I'm happy my spica is fast and has many bugs fixed and many new features but the price for that is very high (long boot, freezes, restarts etc)

Another small bug: Hungarian keyboard is too wide, right hand side, accented letters, and Enter/Backspace won't fit on screen.
I started to look for some clue in https://github.com/voku/android_packages_inputmethods_LatinIME, will see, if I find anything.

Hello VOKU, just wanted to share my thanks to you and everyone involved in this project, been using it for some time now and I just love it. Fast, reliable, nice themes. I end up changing a few apps here and there, but really I couldn't ask for a better job.
Currently playing around with the RC1.
Greetings from Venezuela!
-
Just want to say thank you for your work.
I am currently using RC1 + VOKU Kernel 3.5 + Spica Tweak v1.7.6 + SSSwitch + Compcache + AOSD, and my spica is working very smoothly. Change my Launcher to Nemus Launcher.
Bluetooth bugs :
If bluetooth is switch off from power widget while the bluetooth handsfree is still paired, most of the time my phone is restarted by it selfIf I unpaired the handsfree, the next time I want connect it again, I have to force my bluetooth handsfree to do pairing again,
Thanks for your effort and masterpiece, Keep up the good work.
Warm regards from Indonesia. ( Your firmware is very popular in here btw)

A great job. I'm out of here that I have a new Mini Galaxy 2 and with that I said all. Spica was a great phone in its time but today we need something stronger to by satisfied. I can not criticize it for that because was very helpful, but time has come to rest ...
) Spica will be an acceptable and decent phone with Gingerbread's finished completely. This Room of Voku is the best Froyo on internet an it is complety functional, its lite slowly but its the best it can do for Froyo.

If this helps anyone!
After long experimenting I found a pretty good combination:
Clean install RC1 (do not forget to reboot once again) + Yonip CFS V12B.1 + removed spicaTweak from init.d.After the install, cache, dalvik cache, and battery-stats wipe.
I have activated 18% compcache, but it was equally awesome before, I'm just experimenting further.
No freeze, incredibly responsive, and reliable.

This rom is quite nice and i think is the most stable in 2.2.
There are some bugs in it although. For example, the phone app is not working correctly and i need to get it from CM-6.1.1-a8.4. Also the memory settings are not the best and i have to change the VMheap, Memory and sysctl values.
The rest works ok. I would love to see you involved in developing 4.0 for SPICA.Regs,
Dan -
